Enjoying autumn, at Kyu Furukawa of course !
Temperatures recently started to drop seriously. Autumn is here for good and we already feel the bite of winter. In Tokyo it means that it’s time to enjoy a few walks in local parks to enjoy the “koyo”, these red leaves turning some parks into an ephemere fireworks of autumn hues.
And if there are a lot of parks in Tokyo, some of them are better than others in autumn. The closest to our home is Rikugien. One of the big and famous gardens around. But Rikugien often falls victims to its success and in autumn you’ll have to endure queues and crowds to enjoy the place. Looking for autumn colors around home, my favourite place is definitely Kyu Furukawa. Smaller and less crowded (especially in the morning) this garden is located near Komagone station. It is a former private garden, and its Japanese garden part is purely beautiful. Its main advantage is its compactness… you don’t have to walk a lot looking for nice spots, you’re immediately right in the middle of it. One hour is enough, even if sitting here for a few more minutes is highly recommended to enjoy the atmosphere.
